Christine Nixon is overseeing the largest recovery and rebuilding operation Victoria has ever undertaken following the tragic Black Saturday bushfires which claimed 173 lives. Her priority is working with communities to help them rebuild from their enormous loss.
 
Christine was formerly the Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police leading 14,000 staff with a budget of $1.7 billion. She is in a unique position to share with us her experiences of the local issues facing communities resulting from the global challenges of our world.

Carbon Tax: Implications and Opportunities for Local Government

 

Carbon neutral, greenhouse gas emissions and carbon offsets are just a few of the new words for the vocabulary of public works professionals. BC is the first government in Canada to set a tax on carbon emissions.

 

Dwayne Kalynchuk is a Past National President of the American Public Works Association and recipient of the APWA Top Ten Award for 2008. Dwayne will discuss the impacts, lessons and opportunities carbon tax has for local governments and its residents.
