Call for Abstracts
Abstract Submissions
Mainstreet Australia, Mainstreet SA and Conference Organising Committee invite you to submit an abstract for the 8th National Mainstreet Conference to be held from Sunday 1 – Wednesday 4 May 2011 at the National Wine Centre, Adelaide, South Australia. Contributed papers are an integral part of the success of the Conference.
Abstracts are sought that will stimulate and expand thinking on a variety of issues within the conference theme: Everything Old is New Again.
Management
A significant challenge facing Councils and businesses in Cities, main streets and towns today involves the skillful and professional management of our streets to meet the needs and expectations of customers. Cleaning, Security, Maintenance, Budgets, Information, Board members, Project Coordination, Lobbying, Grant applications, Communication with stakeholders and managing crises all require a focussed and organised approach.
Showcase your project here with a 20 minute Powerpoint about City, main street or precinct management.
Marketing / Promotions / Events
In todays competitive and busy environment an effective marketing plan is critical to attract attention to your precinct or events. Marketing a diverse range of businesses, services for customers, strong retail promotions and great events and festivals can boost visitor numbers significantly. How do precincts deliver an outdoor fashion event or a local community group event with limited funds?
Showcase your marketing plan or focus on a key event you have delivered successfully in a brief presentation and discuss it after your presentation with admiring delegates from across Australia and New Zealand.
Business Development
Attracting new businesses to set up in your City, town or main street can be a challenge without effective tools. Developing your current mix of businesses and helping them achieve success requires skills and knowledge. Working to a retail mix plan, engaging property owners and gaining support from leasing agents can be time consuming but very rewarding.
Showcase your business development success, business training or networking successes and share your knowledge with a wide range of information hungry delegates. Just a 20 minute Powerpoint followed by some questions will gain wide spread acknowledgement.
Placemaking
One of the most central concepts to human existence is that of place. We spend our lives somewhere; whether we are working, relaxing or just existing - we pass our time in various locations; we may travel to a town or city centre to shop, commute to a business park to work, and return to a neighbourhood to sleep.
It may be community development, regeneration, management, marketing, economic development or any permutation of these but the aim is the same - to improve a distinct area or destination for the benefit of its users. This is the essence of placemaking – the process of making places better.
Abstract Submission is now closed.
If you have an abstract you wish to submit for consideration and you will be attending the conference, please contact the Confernece Organisers:
